I had the occasion to utilise the ERPT two and half weeks ago – in the early hours when our practice was broken into and set on fire. I am glad I put the time into completing the resource and used it to enact our emergency plans.
Be prepared. Stay operational. Recover faster.
The Emergency Response Planning Tool (ERPT) helps general practices prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and pandemics.
Developed in collaboration with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and managed by Healthpoint ANZ, the ERPT provides a structured, online approach to emergency preparedness and business continuity.

What is the ERPT?
The ERPT is an online tool that guides general practices through the process of building a customised emergency response plan.
Each plan is individually tailored, creating a clear roadmap for maintaining operations, protecting staff and patients, and reducing financial and reputational risk.
By keeping plans current, practices can ensure:
- Staff safety and confidence
- Continuity of care for patients and communities
- Compliance with RACGP accreditation standards
(5th edition and upcoming 6th edition)
How it works
Practices enter key information into the ERPT platform, which generates a comprehensive, individually tailored emergency plan.
The tool provides guidance, templates and contingency measures for responding to a wide range of events, including:
- Pandemics and infectious disease outbreaks
- Power, water, or gas disruptions
- Telecommunications or IT failures
- Cyber incidents and data loss
- Building damage or loss of premises
- Equipment or medical supply shortages
- Unavailability of key staff
- Aggressive behaviour towards staff
