At a Glance
- Challenge: Supporting high-volume, national telehealth services with accurate, up-to-date referral information
- Solution: Healthpoint Directory integrated into Whakarongorau Aotearoa’s digital services
- Outcome: Improved access to accurate, up-to-date service information supporting telehealth delivery
The Challenge
Whakarongorau Aotearoa is a social enterprise delivering more than 30 free, government-funded health and wellbeing services across seven digital channels. These services support people and whānau at moments of vulnerability, distress, and uncertainty – often when they don’t know where to turn next.
Services such as Healthline, Quitline, 1737 – Need to talk?, Safe to talk – the national sexual harm helpline and Puāwaitanga rely on accurate, real-time information. Clinical teams of nurses and paramedics must quickly connect callers with the right local services.
Without a reliable source of information, this task becomes complex and overwhelming.
The Solution: A Strategic Partnership
Healthpoint and Whakarongorau Aotearoa work in partnership to ensure these national services are underpinned by trusted, up-to-date health and support information.
By integrating the Healthpoint Directory into Whakarongorau Aotearoa’s digital platforms, call handlers and clinicians are supported with consistent access to service information that is:
- Updated regularly and structured for clarity
- Available nationally, across health and social support services
This partnership enables Whakarongorau Aotearoa teams to focus on listening, supporting, and guiding callers – while Healthpoint ensures the information behind each referral remains accurate and current.
Healthpoint gives our teams confidence. When someone calls for support, we know we’re guiding them to the right care, close to home, with the most current information.
Glynis Sandland, Chief Executive Officer, Whakarongorau Aotearoa

The Outcome
Healthpoint’s integration into the Whakarongorau ecosystem has improved the quality and speed of referrals, reduced confusion, and empowered clinical teams to support over 1.3 million New Zealanders annually. It simplifies healthcare navigation and ensures equitable access to care.
Looking Ahead
As the partnership continues to evolve, Healthpoint remains committed to supporting a more connected, digitally enabled health system. Their shared mission is clear: to connect people with the care they need, when they need it.
It’s a privilege to support the incredible work of Whakarongorau. When our information helps someone get the care they need – especially in moments of vulnerability – that’s the impact we care about most.
